Visual Artist, Sculptor and Art Professor

Pavlo Bovdur is a Ukrainian-born visual artist currently based in Canada. He works in painting, glass sculpture, and mixed media, focusing on the subtle intersections between memory, landscape, and the subconscious. His art combines academic discipline with a unique syringe and needle technique, where thousands of micro lines gradually construct surreal environments. This method is not just a visual signature. It carries deeply personal meaning. Pavlo’s father struggled with heroin addiction, and the needle, once associated with trauma, was transformed in Pavlo’s hands into an instrument of creation, precision, and reflection. Each line becomes an act of quiet healing, a way to confront and reshape memory through the meditative process of drawing.

Pavlo was born in Lviv and began drawing in early childhood, encouraged by his mother who noticed his sensitivity to form, color, and symbolism. He studied stained glass at the Lviv Higher Art College and later earned a Bachelor's degree in Decorative and Applied Arts at the Lviv National Academy of Arts, specializing in glass sculpture and art education. His academic foundation continues to guide his approach to structure, spatial depth, and material awareness. The influence of glass — its fragility, illumination, and internal depth — subtly informs the way he constructs space in his paintings as layered, transparent, and atmospheric.

In 2015, due to the war in Ukraine, Pavlo moved to Mexico. There he taught drawing, painting, sculpture, color theory, and artistic experimentation at the University of Montemorelos. The environment of Mexico, with its strong connection to symbolism, myth, and ancestral visual traditions, played an important role in reshaping Pavlo’s artistic language. During this time, he created his first major painting project titled "Ilustres Mexicanos", a series of twenty portraits dedicated to iconic cultural figures. The series blended acrylic realism with visual motifs inspired by Wixárika art. The project was successfully completed, and the works entered private and museum collections.

Since 2022, Pavlo has lived and worked in Canada. He is currently developing his second major project titled "Gravity of Dreams". The project explores imagined terrains, astronauts, animals, and symbolic fragments of inner landscapes. These images reflect the quiet spaces of consciousness, the boundaries between waking reality and dream state, and the instinctive human desire to search, travel, and understand. The syringe and needle technique remains central to this work, providing a slow, attentive drawing process that allows each piece to evolve gradually, line by line, breath by breath.

Alongside painting, Pavlo continues to work with glass sculpture, expanding this medium into future installation projects. He approaches glass as a living material that captures light and fragility, allowing him to explore presence, impermanence, and transformation in three-dimensional form.

Pavlo’s artistic journey is guided by philosophical inquiry and personal experience. He reflects on questions of identity, inner perception, and the emotional architecture of memory. At the core of this journey stands love and support. Pavlo acknowledges his wife as a grounding and constant force whose presence has shaped his creative path across continents, transitions, and years of dedicated work. Her support remains a silent foundation of his artistic evolution.
